Seeking God for our City (Day 33)

Seeking God to bring forth peace among peoples.

3And He shall judge between many peoples and shall decide for strong nations afar off, and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. -Micah 4:3

21And in and on His name will the Gentiles (the [a]peoples outside of Israel) set their hopes. -Matthew 12:21

PRAY:

  • that squabbles and alienation between ethnicities in our city would be overcome by the Prince of Peace.
  • that Christ would be revealed as the only hope for the deep-seated anger and hostilities that rage between people.

Seeking God for our City (Day 32)

Seeking God for worship from every nation.

27-28 From the four corners of the earth
people are coming to their senses,
are running back to God.
Long-lost families
are falling on their faces before him.
God has taken charge;
from now on he has the last word. -Psalm 22:27-28

23A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers. -John 4:23

PRAY:

  • for citywide worship events to draw together believers from many churches as never before.
  • that extravagant worship of God would resound through the city.
  • that the Father would find what He is seeking: many new worshipers in our city.

Seeking God for our City (Day 31)

Seeking God for entire cities to seek the living God.

20 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come, 21 and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and seek the LORD Almighty. I myself am going.’ -Zechariah 8:20-21

“…the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” -Matthew 21:10

PRAY

  • that your city would be stirred with curiosity about Jesus.
  • for movements of people seeking Christ to erupt in your city.
  • for skeptical or doubting friends to seek God.

Seeking God for our City (Day 30)

Seeking God for the gospel to be declared to all peoples.

2 Sing to the LORD, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.

3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

4 For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
he is to be feared above all gods. -Psalm 96:2-4

PRAY:

  • that local believers fulfill Christ’s commission in our cities.
  • for every people group represented in our city to hear the gospel.

Seeking God for our City (Day 29)

Seeking God for blessing upon leaders.

When they hear what you have to say, God,
all earth’s kings will say “Thank you.”
They’ll sing of what you’ve done:
“How great the glory of God!”
And here’s why: God, high above, sees far below;
no matter the distance, he knows everything about us.  -Psalm 138:4-6 (The Message)

When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!  Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[a] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Seeking God for our City (Day 28)

Seeking God to be revealed by answered prayer.

1-2 God, the one and only— I’ll wait as long as he says.
Everything I need comes from him,
so why not?
He’s solid rock under my feet,
breathing room for my soul,
An impregnable castle:
I’m set for life.

3-4 How long will you gang up on me?
How long will you run with the bullies?
There’s nothing to you, any of you—
rotten floorboards, worm-eaten rafters,
Anthills plotting to bring down mountains,
far gone in make-believe.
You talk a good line,
but every “blessing” breathes a curse.

5-6 God, the one and only—
I’ll wait as long as he says.
Everything I hope for comes from him,
so why not?
He’s solid rock under my feet,
breathing room for my soul,
An impregnable castle:
I’m set for life. -Psalm 62

PRAY:

  • that answered prayers would become the talk of our town.
  • for God to encourage the doubting with signs of His goodness through prayer.
  • for God to pour out miracles so abundantly that many would be moved to praise God with loud acclaim.

Seeking God for our City (Day 27)

Seeking God for His name to be honored among all people.

For from the rising of the sun to its setting My name shall be great among the nations, and in every place incense shall be offered to My name, and indeed a pure offering; for My name shall be great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.  -Malachi 1:11

Pray, therefore, like this: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.  -Matthew 6:9

PRAY:

  • that believer’s would be full of desire for God’s name to be known and honored.
  • that stale stereotypes and misconceptions about God would be shattered.

Seeking God for our City (Day 26)

Seeking God for His light to shine upon the nations.

“He says, It is too light a thing that you should be My servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the survivors [of the judgments] of Israel; I will also give you for a light to the nations, that My salvation may extend to the end of the earth.”  (Isaiah 49:6)

“And He said to them, The harvest indeed is abundant [[a]there is much ripe grain], but the farmhands are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”  (Luke 10:2)

PRAY:

  • that believers’ eyes would be open to the harvest around them.
  • for churches and training programs that prepare people for effective ministry.
  • for God to launch laborers into harvest fields of businesses, neighborhoods, schools and other nations.

Seeking God for our City (Day 25)

Seeking God for the fruit of His righteousness.

10 Love and faithfulness meet together;
righteousness and peace kiss each other.

11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,
and righteousness looks down from heaven.

12 The LORD will indeed give what is good,
and our land will yield its harvest.

13 Righteousness goes before him
and prepares the way for his steps.  (Psalm 85:10-13)

PRAY:

  • that God’s kingdom would grow like a beautiful harvest throughout your community.
  • that Christians would bear the fruit of Christ’s character in their relationships.

Seeking God for our City (Day 24)

Seeking God to work with His people to break bonds of injustice.

6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
       to set the oppressed free
       and break every yoke?

7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
       and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness [a] will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. (Isaiah 58:6-8)

PRAY:

  • that Christians would be known in our city by their sacrificial love.
  • that the church would be known as a haven of mercy for the broken and oppressed.
