Seek God for our City (Day 22)

Seeking God to intervene for what is true and right.

14 Our courts oppose the righteous,
and justice is nowhere to be found.
Truth stumbles in the streets,
and honesty has been outlawed.
15 Yes, truth is gone,
and anyone who renounces evil is attacked.

The Lord looked and was displeased
to find there was no justice.
16 He was amazed to see that no one intervened
to help the oppressed.
So he himself stepped in to save them with his strong arm,
and his justice sustained him.  -Isaiah 59:14-16

PRAY:

  • for God to save lost neighbors, family members and friends.
  • for God to save His people from lies, delusion and selfishness.
  • for Jesus to restore that which has been lost in our cities.

Seeking God for our City (Day 18)

Seeking God to be praised by those who were lost.

1 And you will say in that day,
“I thank you, God.
You were angry
but your anger wasn’t forever.
You withdrew your anger
and moved in and comforted me.

2“Yes, indeed—God is my salvation.
I trust, I won’t be afraid.
God—yes God!—is my strength and song,
best of all, my salvation!”

3-4Joyfully you’ll pull up buckets of water
from the wells of salvation.
And as you do it, you’ll say,
“Give thanks to God.
Call out his name.
Ask him anything!
Shout to the nations, tell them what he’s done,
spread the news of his great reputation!  (Isaiah 12:1-4, The Message)

PRAY:

  • for breaking stories of God’s work to be told and retold.
  • for God to be honored for transforming lives.
  • for new believers to become extravagant worshipers.

Seeking God for our City (Day 12)

Seeking God to call people to sincere repentance.

PRAY:

  • for God’s kindness to comfort the people you know who are hardened to the gospel.
  • for God to reveal His mercy anew to someone in your family.

Seeking God for our City (Day 11)

Seeking God to manifest His presence and glory.

I will make my home among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 28 And when my Temple is among them forever, the nations will know that I am the Lord, who makes Israel holy.” -Ezekiel 37:27-28

“So the Word became human[a] and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.[b] And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” -John 1:14

PRAY:

  • for Christ is preoccupy our attention and master our affections.
  • for God to reveal Himself as holy and magnificent to people throughout your community.

Seeking God for our City (Day 10)

Seeking God to restore our families.

“He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.” -Malachi 4:6

We pray that You would again bring together the shattered pieces of families in our city. Confront them all with Your incredible healing grace. May they now, as then, come to know You as the Savior of all.

PRAY:

  • for children who have grown up in broken homes to be embraced by healthy church families and guided by wise parental figures.
  • for God to heal the wounded hearts of parents and children who are alienated and distant.
  • for Jesus to reveal Himself as the Wonderful Counselor, bringing new peace in homes.

Seek God for our City (Day 3)

Seeking God to rescue us from sin’s power.

“Lord, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? 4 But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you.5 I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.6 I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn. 7 O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows.8 He himself will redeem Israel from every kind of sin.” Psalm 130:3-8

“When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” Mark 2:17

We count ourselves among those who desperately need Your help. We have foolishly reckoned that Your forgiveness makes us immune to the disease of self-righteous pride. But we still need Your healing. Come yet again, Great Physician, and make a house call in our city. Free us from subtle, stubborn habits of sin.

PRAYER:

  • for the people you know who are spiritually sickened by sinful patterns in their lives.
  • for Christ to call sinners and to transform them by His mercy.
  • for UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE…that God will meet the needs of those without work in a way that they can clearly thank God for His provision; that they will soon find meaningful employment and glorify God for it; that God will open the way for righteous trade that the entire city prospers in God’s provision.

PRAYWALK: Pray for those in your neighborhood who have recently lost their job or have struggled to find one.

Seek God for our City (Day 2)

Seeking God to break through our complacency and pride.

And so the Lord says, “These people say they are mine.  They honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me.  And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.[a]14 Because of this, I will once again astound these hypocrites with amazing wonders.  The wisdom of the wise will pass away, and the intelligence of the intelligent will disappear.”  Isaiah 29:13-14

“Come to Me…Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  Matthew 11:28-29

We come to You now, as You have summoned us.  Show us Your heart.  Train us in Your humility.

PRAY:

  • for Christ to call many to Himself.
  • for God to intercept our runaway lives so that we can be trained in the way of Christ’s heart.
  • for Christ’s humility to replace deeply-rooted arrogance.
  • for MARRIAGES.  Thank God for solid marriages that reflect His faithfulness and beauty.  Pray especially for marriages that are strained to a breaking point; for those that are failing; that God will bring both hope and help; that He will heal broken hearts and restore intimacy; for every marriage, that God will refresh and recenter homes in Christ.

PRAYERWALK:  Pray (with your spouse if married) near the homes that may need a special touch of God’s healing upon marriages.

Seek God for Our City 2009 (DAY 1)

Seek God to bring lasting revival in our city.

Psalm 85:6-9 “Won’t you revive us again, so your people can rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation. I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways. Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, so our land will be filled with his glory.”

Luke 1:76-78 “And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord. You will tell his people how to find salvation through forgiveness of their sins. Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us..”

PRAY:

  • for God to bring a tender but powerful conviction of sin, exposing sin in the hope that we will be set free from its power.
  • for God to send His people as forerunners, bringing hope that God will visit entire communities in reviving power.
  • for people in their teens to radically commit their lives to Christ; to make wise choices; for older mentors; for solid friendships with their peers who are following Jesus; for open communication with parents; for God’s intentions for their generation to come forth in fullest measure.

Psalm 144: 12 May our sons flourish in their youth like well-nurtured plants. May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace.

God of this city

The song written by Chris Tomlin, “God of this city” harmonizes with our prayer this week.  During our noon prayer time on Tuesday the Holy Spirit directed us to pray over the city of Meridian and surrounding cities in our valley.  Throughout the entire week the direction of prayer has involved intercession for individuals, families, businesses, campuses, communities & leaders.  We have been calling in the harvest from the north, south, east & west!  Please join us today at noon for a time of prayer, either at Capital Christian or where ever you may be today.  Take a moment to pause in prayer for the city you live in!  God is not finished.  His word will be completed in our city!  DON’T forget to join us for pre-service prayer Saturday at 415pm & Sunday at 815am.  Let’s have an attitude of Faith!

“Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Where glory shines from hearts alive
With praise for you and love for you
In this city
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things are still to come
And greater things are still to be done here”  -Chris Tomlin-
